Con la introducci\u00f3n de la legislaci\u00f3n europea sobre el marcaje de productos alimenticios que contengan OGMs (Organismos Gen\u00e9ticamente Modificados) se ha incrementado la demanda de laboratorios de an\u00e1lisis que desarrollen y apliquen m\u00e9todos cuantitativos de detecci\u00f3n. A partir de los esfuerzos realizados para lograr el etiquetado de los alimentos gen\u00e9ticamente modificados, los laboratorios oficiales de control de alimentos utilizan los m\u00e9todos de detecci\u00f3n cuantitativa, tales como PCR en tiempo real (Real-Time PCR). El uso de esta t\u00e9cnica ha demostrado responder a las necesidades creadas por la normativa, ya que es posible determinar la cantidad (en porcentaje) de OGM presente en una muestra, as\u00ed como identificar y cuantificar las variedades transg\u00e9nicas no autorizadas en la Comunidad Europea.<\/p>\n

Aunque los OGMs aprobados para el consumo humano han sido analizados con pruebas cient\u00edficas rigurosas, el etiquetado permite que los consumidores tengan la opci\u00f3n de seleccionar el alimento que deseen consumir.<\/p>\n
